One hull, identical for every team. A world of engineering possibilities built around it. Meet the Energy Class catamaran and the student teams racing on Lake Como — each with their own technology, their own approach and one goal: a ticket to the Monaco World Final.
A standardised catamaran hull, supplied by the Yacht Club de Monaco, is built upon. Each team designs and builds their own cockpit and zero-emission propulsion system — using electric, solar, hydrogen or other clean technologies — within a 10 kWh energy budget. Launched in 2018, the Energy Class is the longest-established discipline of the MEBC.
Four Energy Class wins in the last five Monaco editions. For 2027 the team races a dual-source powertrain pairing a custom battery pack with a hydrogen fuel-cell system.
